You know what blows my mind?
How many in the talent management realm never meet the talent they exclusively represent? It's like, "Here is your creator, here's your agency colleagues, and voilà!" 🎩✨
But let's be real, managing someone's entire media business without even a handshake? Crazy, right?🤯
Now, before y'all start throwing virtual tomatoes at me, hear me out.
I get it, not everyone can swing a face-to-face meeting with their creators. I want to emphasize that this approach isn't feasible for everyone because of various factors like geographical distance, time constraints, or personal preferences. (blah, blah, blah)
But from my own experiences, let me tell you, there's nothing quite like stepping away from emails and Discord messages and ACTUALLY meeting people.
So when it comes to my creator journey and my work with Stem Media I make it a point to stay as involved as HUMANLY possible.
After all...WE ARE IN THE PEOPLE BUSINESS.
Whether it's grabbing lunch, hosting a gaming session on VALORANT or CoD, or even meeting at an event, fostering real connections is one of the keys to success in this industry. (And hey, I'm always up for friendly competition, even if it means getting lapped on Rainbow Road!)😂🌈🏎️
Here are 2 reasons for emphasizing personal connections:
1️⃣ Understanding beyond stats - humanizing the business relationship:
Sure, numbers are important in this game, but there's nothing quite like sitting down face-to-face and getting to know the person behind the screen. In a digital world dominated by metrics and analytics, interactions humanize the business relationship between influencers, creators, and their partners. Sitting down together adds depth and allows individuals to see beyond the numbers, campaign briefs, and media kits, recognizing each other as valued partners; showing them that you're more than just a name on an email chain— a real, flesh-and-blood partner invested in their success.
2️⃣ Trust and rapport: Building trust is fundamental in any business relationship, often, trust isn't built on emails and conference calls alone, it's nurtured through shared experiences and moments of connection. They provide a depth and richness that digital communication simply cannot replicate.
And to give you a glimpse of this philosophy in action, here's a picture of me and Andy Morris, one of our talented musicians. We met up while he was in Austin, and it was an opportunity to strengthen our bond beyond the digital realm.
It's essential to recognize the value of genuine human connection. While technology facilitates communication and collaboration, it cannot replace in-person interactions.
SO! If you've made it this far into reading this (lol)
